Breast Hat Pattern Release!

Breast Hatt pattern is now available for $4.00. It has been clarified, centimters added, top down & bottum up instructions as well as a new Copyright. The Copyright is like a license to sell the finished hats for charity, auction or donation. The pattern cannot be reproduced to sell or handout.

Here it is in all it's glory; the Breast Hat Pattern.  Okay, it really is just a simple top down, knit in the round beanie.  Still, it is fast and fun and cute to boot!

Who says all breasts are white???  I am sure that somewhere there are multicolored pink ones :)

Of all my kids (other than the BOYS, of course!!) only Mady would proudly wear a breast on her head  :D

This hat is so comfortable!

For the Breast Hats, I used Knit Picks Simply Cotton Worsted in "Malted Milk" (I am not kidding!) & Dogwood Heather for the white breast and "Toffee" & "Reindeer Heather" for the darker breast.  VERY soft, organic yarn. I am not a fan of knitting with cotton as it does not have any give, but these were so soft and luscious, I will definitely use it again to make little baby hats.

A special hat for my new little niece yet to come.  Knit from Noro Silk Garden.  Perfect for a little girl :)

Sizes are preemie to large adult

I rate this pattern beginner to advanced beginner as it is knit from the top down, in the round, using circular needles.  The increases used are lifted increase; wonderful increases, but a bit tricky. I highly recommend this video.

Have fun with it and be creative (wouldn't a breast beret be funny?)  Happy knitting!

  1. What a riot that it comes in an ADULT size! If you did it in bright or other colors, it wouldn't have to be a breast (you know, if you're a teen girl or something). Love it Meg!!

  2. I love the white with pink areola and the brown one. Lovely! Oh, I showed Nathan these, and he said, "Did she decide to knit some breast warmers?" I said, "No, they're hats." He said, "I KNOW, but did she originally want breast warmers?" Hahahahahaha! He's funny.

  3. Mel, You can use whatever yarn you want, it really is just a simple top down hat pattern :)The pink variegated one is not a breast, but for my brothers baby.

Tara, tell Nathan that I did try them on; who wouldn't? lol!

  5. Hi!
I have never knitted before but have been asked to take part in a 'team-building exercise' for the maternity unit I work for. I have asked my mother-in-law to teach me to knit but she didn't understand your instructions as she only knows UK terminology. Would you be able to 'translate' this for me as she is now intrigued and would love to make some.

    Many thanks in advance!

I do not mind if you use the pattern for this purpose. I really don't know which terms you would like translated :) Please let me know what exactly she doesn't understand and I will see if I can help. thank, Meg

  8. I a new knitter and am a bit confused what KFB into each st. = 8 sts. I get knitting front to back into each stitch, but I don't get the = 8 part, does that mean I knit KFB into each stitch 8 rounds? I am a bit confused on this part.

    Thanks

    1. Hello,
You start with 4sts. You kfb into each one and this will gve you a total of 8sts. Or, it will = 8sts. make sense?

    2. so for round 1 I only KFB for the first 4 sts - I get it will increase it to 8 stitches. Then for round 2 and all alternative rounds k. So for round too I just knit and no increasing with KFB, what are the alternative rounds? The instructions go onto round 3 with LLI into each stitch, etc. Can you please explain the alternative rounds k. part to me. Thank you so much in advance for your help, I really appreciate it!

  10. You knit every 2nd round. The other rounds, you are working the increases. Does this make sense ? LMK! Meg

  11. Quick question, I am on round 3, first LLI. Do I knit the first stitch of this round and then LLI from that stitch, or do I LLI into the previous round? Thank you for the help and the great hat pattern!

    1. You can do it eiter way, but once you start it one way you need to keep it that way. I might update the pattern to read:
      Round 3 - [k1, LLI]x8, place a st marker after each inc. = 16sts
Round 5 - [k1, LLI, work to next marker, slip marker] X8.

      Does that help?

  12. new knitter here, I've only ever made scarves. self taught crocheter & I've made the crocheted boobie hats. Obviously all these terms are unfamiliar to me so I've looked up how to do the various stitches on Youtube. They all make sense, but I'm having a little trouble getting the pattern to flow smoothly.
Am I too eager to be perfect the first time round or am I over thinking the pattern? Any tips, links or videos would be muchly appreciated, thanks =)
